We are proud to announce the release of our new tool for managing organizational hierarchies, designed specifically for companies and funds with subsidiaries. This tool enables you to effectively organize your ownership structure while aggregating your emissions across the organization. Following the principles of the operational control approach of the GHG Protocol, we categorize these emissions and accurately reflect them in the hierarchy. Another new addition is the revized portfolio dashboard, which is now also taking into account the emissions from your subsidiaries!
Aggregation logic

Let's first take a quick look at the logic behind the aggregation of emissions in this structure. Simply put, if you have operational control over your subsidiaries, you inherit 100% of their Scope 1, 2, and 3emissions, and these are added to your own Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. If you do not have operational control, you still inherit a portion of their emissions. The Scope 1 and 2 emissions from these subsidiaries are multiplied by your equity share in the company and added to your Scope 3.15 Investments.Emissions from Scope 3 are not inherited by the parent company if there is no operational control. Below is an illustration that shows the logic behind aggregation according to the operational control approach.

Ownership

To get started with setting up your organizational hierarchy, navigate to the new 'Ownership' section, found under 'Data' insideMoreScope. Here, you can configure your organizational structure by specifying the equity share and determining whether you have operational control over the companies within this structure. Simply select the owner of each company, enter the equity share, and indicate if you have operational control. We'll handle the rest!

Subsidiary status

After setting up your organizational structure, you'll notice several new features inside the app. One example is when you navigate to your inventories and hover over a specific entry, you'll be able to see the emissions inherited from your subsidiaries, as well as the status of these inventories. This way, you can always track the progress of your subsidiaries' accounting and ensure that all their emissions are accounted for.

Outputs and subsidiary views

You do of course get the freedom to select which subsidiary emissions you wish to view and export. Simply click view subsidiary emissions and select the ones you with to view. The aggregation of emissions from the selected subsidiaries with be displayed in your scope category views, and emissions overview as well as with your sharable page, reports and exports.

The new and improved portfolio dashboard

The old portfolio dashboard served the purpose of showingthe emissions of your organization through a flat structure, with thepossibility of aggregating numbers through equity share, or total emissions. This was only available for certain portfolio users. We're happy to announcethat the new version is available to everyone! and now also takes into accountyour hierarchy aggregations. This view has gotten quite the facelift.
